Where to go Wednesday: D.C. Bright Lights

Looking for some COVID-friendly fun during this winter holiday season? No worries, City Vibes’ weekly Where to go Wednesday has you covered. Check out some of the brightest holiday light installation happening all across the DMV area.  

Washington D.C.

 ZooLights Express hosted by the Smithsonian features a 24-foot truck, festively decorated with light displays and “Panda Claws”, that travels all over the District through Dec. 19. The Express will visit one ward in DC each Friday and Saturday from 6-8 p.m. For a full schedule and routes through each ward, visit the Zoo’s website. Open through Dec. 19 on Fridays & Saturdays, 6-8 p.m. Free.

Light Yards will continue the yearly tradition by providing an opportunity to celebrate the holidays in a fun, safe way during a time when many holiday traditions and events have been canceled. The holiday installation will feature the​ premiere​ of “Stars” by Australian-based immersive light design sculptors ​Amigo & Amigo​.This light show is free-to-all and will begin on December 7th and be illuminated nightly from 6-10pm at The Yards. The Yards is a very hip and fun waterfront area in D.C, you can enjoy the installation while having a cocktail, eating delicious food, and snuggling up to your boo.  

Maryland

Meadowlark’s Botanical Gardens Winter Walk of Lights is a magical Winter Walk of Lights in Vienna, Virginia.  The light show is more than a half-mile long, one-way route, providing an enchanting and safe evening activity. Take a nice brisk walk to dazzle at the lights andenjoy some hot chocolate, coffee and tasty treats. Don’t forget to bring your camera and capture all the memories! The walk is open nightly Wednesday, November 11, 2020 through Sunday, January 3, 2021. Cost: $12.50 – $20.00.

The Symphony of Lights has been a Howard County holiday tradition for over 25 years. Located in the historic Merriweather Post Pavilion, the light show is made up of more than 300,000 bulbs. This family-oriented event features an amazing display of larger-than-life animated and stationary holiday light creations. The event is also hosting for the first time this year 3 holiday games. Complete 1 of 3 games for a chance to win or complete all for a grand prize! Running from now until Jan 2, 2021 there is plenty of time to check it out. Cost is $20 per vehicle.

Virginia

Check out NoVA’s newest winter event, Ice and Lights – The Winter Village at Cameron Run in Alexandria, VA. Walk-through trees and photo frames, giant wreaths, and beautifully designed stars perfect event to take great photos! You get the best of both worlds, lightshow, and ice skating. Prices range is $9.35 – $24, find tickets on their Eventbrite page. Please note, The Winter Village admission includes admission to Ice & Lights but does NOT include ice skating or skate rentals.
