Is it just me or did Christmas rush by like a commuter train during rush hour? Speaking of Christmas and trains were you able to visit the US Botanical Garden during its Seasons Greening exhibit? If not you’re in luck because I did and I am here to give you my recap. I will have to say as a harden New Yorker I am skeptical of all things touristy. I automatically think it’s going to be cheesy, corny and cliché but 8 times out of 10 I am impressed and this time around the same thing happened!
As you enter the dark conservatory, all 5 senses are engaged. You are instantly consumed by the powerful smells of fresh plants, poinsettias and flowers, the smell is invigorating! Mellow Christmas music sways in the background, your eyes are immediately drawn to the bright yet subtle reds, greens and yellows. It is impossible not to be instantly curious as you enter and want to explore more!
You are greeted by the Garden Court, where you find model landmarks from our nation’s capital – all made from plant materials. There are 12 D.C. landmarks that are on display including the U.S. Capitol, the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial and, a new addition this year, an inspired botanical version of Union Station.
The exhibit takes you across America by showcasing all the major U.S. train stations. You’re able to explore classic stations like New York City’s Grand Central Terminal, Detroit’s Michigan Central Station, Maui’s Lahaina Station, North Pole stations and many more.
It certainly wouldn’t be the holidays without poinsettias! There were thousands of them on display throughout the Conservatory, including a showcase of more than 30 varieties of poinsettias. Who knew there were that many different varieties? Today was the last day to see the exhibit but there’s always next year!
