Check out 2021 St. Patrick’s day Celebration in the Capitol region!
Yes, coronavirus is still an issue and yes, I am not Irish but I love to celebrate any and all drinking holidays! But as a way to honor this holiday, I will share some fun facts about St. Patty’s Day and what it truly represents!
- What does the holiday really represent: called the Feast of Saint Patrick, this day is a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland. RIP to this man!
- Let’s talk Leprechauns: According to History Channel, the red-haired, green-clothed Leprechaun is commonly associated with St. Patrick’s Day. The original Irish name for these figures of folklore is “lobaircin,” meaning “small-bodied fellow.” Belief in leprechauns likely stems from Celtic belief in fairies— tiny men and women who could use their magical powers to serve good or evil. Very interesting, learned something new!
- How to celebrate: People in Ireland had celebrated St. Patrick since the 1600s, the tradition of a St. Patrick’s Day parade began in America and actually predates the founding of the United States. Leave it to Americans to make up their own traditions lol!
With that out of the way lets talk drinks and food! This Where to go Wednesday is coming up all corn beef hash, fish and chips and Shepherd’s pie. If you don’t like the traditional food of Irish people, then fill up on tons of green beer! Check out what’s happening this week for St. Patrick Day in the DMV.
- One of my favorite spots: The Midlands Beer Garden: From March 13-20, Midlands will be serving up Shamrock Shots, 50/50 beer bucks of Guinness and Redlands Lager, Irish drop shots, corned beef sandwiches, and Irish nachos. If you’re dining in, expect plenty of giveaways throughout the festivities. Reservations are encouraged.
- The king of all creative events: Wunder Garten is transforming into an Irish wonderland from Friday through Wednesday. There will be an all-day raffle, a double header of Trivia and plenty of green drinks to go around. The mixology team will be serving Leprechaun milkshakes full of candy and shimmer, and a champagne-based cocktail that would make Saint Patrick proud. Tickets are available ahead of time, but walk-ups are still encouraged.
- Check out the Adams Morgan hotspot: The delicious French-American bistro Mintwood Place, from Wednesday, March 17 to Sunday, March 21, the will offer a festive St. Patrick’s Day menu. Customers will have the option to purchase four dishes—including a crispy shepherd’s pie ($24) and a Bailey’s bread pudding ($9)—a la carte or as a package for two ($50). The dishes will be available for brunch and dinner (outdoor, limited indoor, and to-go).
- This next spot is not here to play with it’s St. Patrick’s celebration: One of the longest celebrations from March 12 to 20, check out Jack Rose Dining Saloon in NW DC. There’s too much information to share so I will just drop the link: http://jackrosediningsaloon.com/event/st-patricks-celebration/ You’re Welcome!
- If you live in NoVA, then the next spot is a main staple St. Patty’s Day or not: Make sure to check out Irelands Four Courts in Arlington for an alllllllll day SPD celebration. Doors open at 9am, for food, drinks and music. This place is different a fun spot and you have to try their traditional Irish food menu! https://www.irelandsfourcourts.com/entertainment-1/
