Ever see those weird dockless scooters laying around The District or people dressed in business casual attire oddly whizzing by on an electric scooter? Well, according to several news sources, it’s about to get much weirder! D.C. is increasing the number of businesses that are permitted to house dockless scooters around the city. Here’s the 5 things you need to know:
- In 2017, the “Dockless in the District” program was launched and there were 7 operators that participated.
- For the 2019 season, The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) received nearly double the number of companies vying to host dockless scooters, a total of 12.
- Currently capped at 400 scooters per fleet per company. A new regulation will enable operators to expand their respective scooter and bike fleets by 25 percent on a quarterly basis.
- Scooter speeds will be restricted to 10 mph and electric bike speeds to 20 mph.
- How much they cost you ask: According to Arlington Magazine: you can start riding many electric scooters for $1 and then 15 cents a minute thereafter.
Have you ever tired ride one of these scooters? Seems dangerous to me considering how this DC taxis and Uber drivers drive. What was your experience?
Welp! Its going on my D.M.V. Bucketlist – Check it out here!
