One stop on our Atlanta (ATL) tour we visited the city’s Botanical Gardens. We were blown away by the gorgeous flowers, botany artistry, and the peaceful greenery.
The garden features renowned plant collections, beautiful displays, and spectacular exhibitions. Considered an urban oasis in the heart of Midtown, the Garden includes 30 acres of outdoor gardens, a Children’s Garden, a trail called the Storza Woods highlighted by a colorful Canopy Walk, and the picturesque Skyline Garden.
Located adjacent to Piedmont Park in Midtown ATL. The garden’s mission is to “develop and maintain plant collections for the purposes of display, education, conservation, research and enjoyment”.
We prepared this Survival Guide to help you have the best experience when visiting Atlanta’s Botanical Gardens.
- Be prepared: Check the weather forecast. You DO NOT want to go to the gardens on a super-hot, super-sunny day. That 90-degree Atlanta sun will have you feeling like you are in the desert vs. a garden. Walking in the rain would not be much fun either. Pick a milder temperature, partly cloudy day to go and you will be able to enjoy the entire park.
- Stay cool: Pack a misting fan. Even on a party cloudy day, if you are going during the summer, it will still be hot because you are outside, and you have to walk a lot. Pack a fan that sprays a light mist. You will thank us later!
- Dress accordingly: Nothing wrong with cute yet comfy! You’re definitely going to want to wear a cute outfit to match the beautiful flowers and lush greenery. Our recommendation, dress cute yet comfortable. There is a lot of walking so choose your shoes wisely. You may want to skip the heels or pack flats. If you are one of those people who MUST wear heels, pick wedges or chunky heels. There were a few dirt patches, cobblestone paths and rocky trails that are not skinny-heel-friendly.
- Seize the Photo: There are a lot of Instagrammable backdrops at the gardens so get ready to take a lot of pictures and videos. If you are traveling solo, we recommend bringing a small foldable tripod and shutter button.
- Eat First, Save Money: This tip is self-explanatory. Outside food or drinks are not permitted. They do have concession stands and a full-service restaurant on site however, who wants to pay $4 for an ice cream pop and $4 for one bottle of water? Not me!
